Vandaag bespreek ik mijn macrolens. Het is de eerste lens die ik kocht, buiten mijn kitlens dan. Ik had al snel door dat ik me wou verdiepen in de wondere wereld van de bloemetjes en de insecten. In de lesvrije week, ergens eind januari, begin februari begon ik informatie op te zoeken over macrolenzen. Nooit heb ik stil gestaan bij extension tubes, daar wist ik het bestaan nog niet van af op dat moment.
Ik had bij onze lokale fotograaf de Nikkor 105mm f2.8 eens getest en ik was verkocht, maar ik ben nogal snel verkocht. Het is pas als ik naar het prijskaartje kijk dat ik denk auw. Mijn zoektocht ging dus verder. Sigma 105 kwam aan bod maar klonk niet als muziek in de oren. Sigma 150mm deed dat wel, maar die had geen stabilisator en ik vind dat een macro lens dat nodig heeft want ik gebruik geen statief. Veel te onhandig als er een bij voorbij vliegt die je koste wat het kost op je foto wil hebben.
Nikkor 60mm f2.8 kwam ook in aanmerking maar maar voor eventjes. Toen zag ik op Fotokonijnenberg dat Nikkor 105mm f2.8 niet zo duur was als bij onze lokale fotograaf en het was nog solden op dat moment. Ik had wel de Nikkor 85mm f3.5 in het achterhoofd gehouden, hoewel ik er zeer weinig reviews over vond. Net voor ik naar de winkel wou vertrekken die in Turnhout is, wat een eindje is van waar ik woon, zag ik dat die lens mijn prijslimiet overschreden had. Ik wou niet meer uitgeven dan 700 euro. Ik ben gierig, altijd al geweest en dat bedrag uitgeven aan iets waar ik eigenlijk niet veel kaas van gegeten had, vond ik niet kunnen. Ik kocht dus de 85mm f3.5, ook die was in prijs gestegen, oh hoe is het toch mogelijk?
De focus van deze lens is redelijk snel, iets trager dan de 105mm maar snel genoeg naar mijn zin. Wat minder handig is, is dat het voorste glaselement echt knal vooraan zit. Dus steeds de zonnekap erop want ik bots nogal wel eens ergens tegen. Misschien moet ik maar eens een filter kopen. De 85mm is ook een lens voor dx-formaat waar de 105 eentje voor fx-formaat is. Wat wil dat zeggen? Dat ik mijn lens niet op een full frame camera kan gebruiken, nu ja dat kan wel maar dan mis je altijd een deel van je bereik. Fx is dan weer geschikt voor beide, zowel small als full, maar ze zijn doorgaans ook duurder omdat ze voor de professionele fotografen zijn. Al heb ik horen vertellen dat fx lenzen subliem zijn als je ze met een small frame camera gebruikt.

Bon, ik heb niet meer te vertellen over mijn macrolens, kijk eventjes naar de foto’s en oordeel zelf. Ik hou van deze lens!
Punten? 8,5/10. Raad ik ze aan? Ja, tenzij je een groter budget hebt, koop dan de 105mm.

Today I will talk about my macro lens. It’s the first lens I bought beside my kit lens. I knew almost right away that I wanted to practise some macro photography. After my exams somewhere late January I started to look up some information about macro lenses. I never heard of extension tubes.
At my local photographer I once tried the Nikkor 105mm f2.8 and I loved it so much. But when I saw the price tag I though ouch. So my search continued. I took a look at the line of Sigma. I didn’t like the Sigma 105mm but loved the Sigma 150mm. Sadly it didn’t have a stabilizer and I really need that, especially with macro photography because I never use a tripod.
I took a look at the Nikkor 60mm f2.8 but it didn’t have that stabilizer and then I saw on the website of Fotokonijnenberg that the Nikkor 105mm f2.8 not as expensive what as it was at our local photographer. I did take the Nikkor 85mm f3.5 in consideration but I really wanted the 105mm. Just before we left to go and buy it I saw that the 105mm had exceeded my price limit. I didn’t want to pay over 700 Euros. I don’t like to spend money and certainly not at something I don’t really get yet. As I never did macro photography I thought that it wasn’t justified to spend that kind of money. So I bought the 85mm f3.5, it had also increased in price but it was still way below my 700 Euro limit.
The focus of this lens is reasonably fast, although slightly slower than the 105mm, but for me it is fast enough. What I don’t really like about this lens is that the front glass element really sits in front. So I always use the hood because I sometimes bump into things. Maybe I need to buy a filter. The 85 mm is also a lens for dx-format where the 105 one for fx-format. What does that mean? I can use my lens on a fx body but then I will lose part of its reach. Fx lenses are suitable for both bodies but they are also more expensive. But I heard someone tell me that the fx lenses are sublime when used on a small frame body.

Points? 8.5/10. Would I recommend it? Yes, unless you have a larger budget, then buy the 105 mm.
