My kit lens: NIKON AF-S DX 18-55MM F/3.5-5.6G VR

Vandaag ga ik meer vertellen over mijn kitlens.

Ze is zeker geschikt voor een beginner maar als je een beetje serieus bezig wil zijn met fotografie merk je al snel dat dit niet de aankoop van je leven was, maar eerder een miskoop. Ik heb me laten overhalen om meer te betalen voor een kitlens met VR functie. Destijds dacht ik nog dat ik dit hard ging nodig hebben. Nu denk ik dat ik dat extra geld beter kon gebruiken. Wie wil mijn kitlens kopen? J

Neen, het is een goede lens. Ik heb er zes maand plezier aan beleefd, de kneepjes van het vak geleerd en toch ook wel mooie close ups mee gemaakt. Al moet je dan je foto uitsnijden omdat je anders niet dicht bij geraakt. Je mag never nooit uitsnijden, dat brengt je compositie uit balans en het haalt de kwaliteit naar beneden.  Ik heb mijn lesje wel geleerd toen ik mijn foto’s van kevers ging laten afdrukken en de fotograaf me liet weten dat ze te klein waren. Dus snij je foto’s niet uit.

Terug naar de kitlens, ze gaat over de toonbank voor rond de 130 euro.

Gebruik ik ze nog steeds? Ja, sporadisch. Zoals foto’s van de sterren. Voor de rest blijft ze steeds in mijn cameratas zitten en van zodra ik een deftige zoom heb, gaat ze de deur uit.

Raad ik ze aan? Valt te zien wat je doelstellingen zijn. Wil je gewoon een reflex voor vakantiekiekjes? Dan ja, alhoewel je dan misschien nog beter af bent met een 35mm. Maar als je gewoon leuke foto’s wil maken op plaatsten met voldoende licht en verder geen investeringen wil doen, dan is dit zeker een geschikte lens. Wil je meer uit je camera halen? Koop dan gewoon een body en laat die kitlens achterwegen.  Wil je toch een kleine zoom, kies dan eentje met meer lichtsterkte bijvoorbeeld de sigma 17-70mm f2.8-4.0.

Punten? 7/10, ik ben mild, want ze leverde goede kwaliteit voor wat ik destijds in gedachten had.

I let the seller talk me into a kit lens with VR function. I thought I really needed it. Now I think I could have used that money for something else. Who wants to buy my kitlens? J

No, it is a good lens, and I have enjoyed using it for six months. It’s good to learn the tricks of photography and it also made beautiful close ups. Although you would need to crop those photos because this lens will not take you close to the object. But actually you may never crop your pictures, you will lose quality, so if you want to get close, buy a lens that is suited for that. I have learned my lesson when I went to the store to print my pictures and they said they were too small to print. So, really don’t crop, especially for prints.

Back to the kit lens, she goes over the counter for around 130 euro.

Would I recommend it? That depends on your goals. Do you want a reflex to take snapshots on vacation? Then yes, although you will be better off with a 35mm. But if you want to take some pictures in places with enough light, I would say go ahead and buy it. If you want to get more out of your camera, I would say buy a body, leave that kit lens in the store and buy some better glass. If you really want a small zoom, choose one with a lower fstop. For example the Sigma 17-70mm F2.8-4.0.

Points? 7/10, I’m mild because she delivered good quality for what I originally had in mind.
